Our Story
Humble beginnings to being a leader in the mining industry
The People Behind the Product
Tough but flexible, wear solutions with Abreco Wear Products® reflect the DNA of the company whose founders saved it from the waste bin of history. When the original supplier phased out production in 1984, two key staff members started a new business to provide continuity of supply to the market knowing how vital it was for its customers.
As the company’s mainstay since that time, the uses for this extremely wear resistant laminated white iron have adapted to allow its customers to dig deeper, install faster and protect their equipment better from costly breakdowns and unscheduled maintenance shutdowns. As the company’s mainstay since that time, the uses for this extremely wear resistant laminated white iron have adapted to allow its customers to dig deeper, install faster and protect their equipment better from costly breakdowns and unscheduled maintenance shutdowns.
The people behind the product – known as the A-team — take pride in knowing they save time and money with ease of installation, reliability, and engineered designs for product longevity, quick installation and removal to minimize costly downtime.
When they launched the Abrasion Resistant Company Inc. back in 1985, the founders shortened the name to Abreco Inc. – drawing on the first pair of letters from each word. From these humble beginnings, more than 35 years later, the name Abreco has become synonymous with quality, ingenuity and innovation.
In 2004, the company was renamed Canadian Wear Technologies to better represent the increased product offering to the abrasive wear sector. However, Abreco® has remained the backbone of the firm due to its reputation as, pound for pound, one of the best wear materials on the planet in terms of maintenance and reliability. The A-team offers more than a material; they offer designs that work in any bulk material-handling environment. They think ahead to avoid late-night, awkward welding jobs. They make wear materials that ensure the safety of workers in challenging conditions. They make a product that is truly ‘Engineered to Outperform’.
They know that a poorly lined crusher circuit can shut down a mining operation at a cost of hundreds of thousands per hour, so they work to prevent it in the first place. They understand that pushing liners in pieces of equipment to the breaking point will lead to an outage worth millions of dollars.
Therefore, they help protect machines from damage and costly, time-sucking maintenance that could cause financial ruin for their owners. That’s what makes them as tough and reliable as the goods they sell – their ability to lessen the impact of the work done in the oil sands and hard rock mines in Canada, the U.S., South America and beyond.
By walking in the work boots of their customers, the A-team foresees where gaps can occur and comes up with innovative wear solutions before they become problems. That way, they also protect the people and equipment that drive bulk material-handling businesses, from manufacturing to shipping.
Through innovation, they generate industry break-throughs in technology, leading the way and keeping the work churning along. Thankfully, the vision of the A-team has provided businesses with the Abreco® they need to build themselves stronger.
